Today’s yoga class will begin with stretching your hamstrings, calves, and inner thighs, hips and glutes in preparation for the kundalini kriyas we will practicing today. These postures alleviate stiffness in your low back and help with arthritic pain in your knees and hip. We will also begin to focus with balance.
This class has a lot of hamstring stretches in it with lots of modifications and propping for those with low back issues. These will stretch your spine, back muscles, hamstring and groin. They will massage your internal organs and improve your digestion. They help to calm your mind, central nervous system, relieve anxiety, fatigue, headaches, menstrual discomforts, menopause, high blood pressure, depression and insomnia.
There are also several movement which will bring length, mobility and flexibility to your entire spine. Modifications will be given for wrists and knees. There is some brain yoga which is great for coordinating the left and right hemispheres of your brain. Shoulder rolls will increase your range of motion in your shoulders and upper back, improve posture and release throat tension. We will finish with savasana which will help to completely relax your body, relieve stress, fatigue and help to lower blood pressure.
The main focus in this class is on balance and moderation of your energy for focus. Normally our energy is pulled in a thousand directions. As yogis, we can practice mindfulness of our energy through Patanjali’s yoga sutras and specifically the fourth yama, brahmacharya. This class will help you to recharge your energy, get your energy moving, but more importantly in the long term focus on balance and moderate use of your energy.
